Open Concept Kitchen | Wall Removal
When you're looking through this project, note that this kitchen was closed off to the living room (directly behind the wall shown in the middle) and dining room (to the right of the wall) with only a small doorway entry for both. The client wanted to open the kitchen to the dining room and living room to create a much more user-friendly, open-concept layout. The upper left photo shows the before. There's a small pantry is behind the shutter-style doors, the current door opening off the hallway which will be closed off. A new pantry will be framed out to increase the pantry/storage footprint, and the refrigerator will be placed next to the pantry wall to the right. The base cabinets have been removed, all new flooring will be installed. The flooring installation will be merging the old with the new with a popular new flooring treatment allowing most of the existing hardwood flooring to stay but merging with the new. The wall (shown in the middle picture above) is a load wall. It's important that structural integrity not be compromised. To do this, we have to have support beams placed strategically. When the project is finished, the beams will look as if they were always there and will blend in with the rest of the space.
